BOTOX® – Did you know that botox isn’t just for the plastic surgeons anymore?

This week’s topic is one that many women already know about, Botox ! Did you know that botox isn’t just for the plastic surgeons anymore. Botox is expanding the horizon of Dentistry. While it is primarily used as cosmetic treatment for wrinkles and fine lines on the face, the ingredients that make up botox have a long history of therapeutic uses. Botox is minimally invasive; it is great for management of dental related muscle issues like TMJ pain, bruxism, clenching, and masseter hypertrophy.

Treat esthetic dental conditions like deep nasolabial folds, radial lip lines, high lip line, gummy smiles and even black triangles between teeth, adjusting to new dentures, and enhancing and shaping your smile. Botox is safe, non surgical, reversible.

Botox is a neurotoxin derived from bacterium clostridium (clos stridy yum, bought u line em) botulinum which can be found in many different natural substances. The toxin inhibits the release of ACH, a neurotransmitter responsible for the activation of muscle contraction and glandular secretion, which is why it results in the reduction of tone or bulk in the injected muscle.

The results aren’t permanent and last for 6 months with a range of 4-8 months.

Fun Fact….Did you know dentists are usually more proficient than any other healthcare professionals in providing these treatments to patients for both dental and cosmetic needs , that’s because dentists are already trained in providing profound anesthesia in the orofacial region. Dentists can numb you or give you sedation for fillers/BOTOX®
